Aswathy’s Journey of Resilience, Education, and Giving Back

A Pestalozzi Scholar from 2014 to 2016, she grew up in a traditional and conservative family in Kerala, India. As the first person in her family to pursue education beyond high school, Aswathy’s journey is one of perseverance, selflessness, and a deep commitment to her community. Her experiences at Pestalozzi not only broadened her educational horizon but also sparked a passion for social impact that continues to inspire those around her.

Upon completing her studies, Aswathy returned to her community for a gap year, dedicated to volunteering with various NGOs. She became a teacher and mentor, empowering young Indians to realize their full potential. With a desire to multiply the impact of her education, she took an online Personal Development course, equipping her to guide others on their paths to growth and self-discovery.

Continuing her education was no easy feat, especially with financial constraints. Yet, Aswathy’s resolve never wavered. She secured admission to the Sai Institute of Paramedical and Allied Sciences in Dehradun, earning a BSc in Medical Microbiology. Even while immersed in her studies, Aswathy found time to volunteer, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to giving back. Her academic ambitions led her further. Starting with a Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Aswathy swiftly transitioned to a master’s program and is now pursuing a PhD. This remarkable trajectory defies expectations, especially given the socio-economic barriers she has overcome.

Aswathy’s journey is a testament to the far-reaching impact of education. Through her determination and the support of Pestalozzi, she is driving change in her community and beyond. Her gratitude shines through in her heartfelt reflection: “Everyone whom I’ve known through Pestalozzi makes me so happy; inspires me; you’re all family... Thank you for making me the person I am today!”

Supporting Aswathy is not just investing in one person but in a ripple effect of positive change. Her story exemplifies the power of resilience and the profound impact of creating educational opportunities for those who need them most.
